Possible Yellow-billed Cuckoo North Bend July 23

Dave Beeke and his brother heard the bird calling from the woods. It matched the call of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo, but they didn't see the bird, so it is a heard only sighting.

North Bend is located in the Fraser Canyon just across the river form Boston Bar.

  1. It's pretty well established that the two North American cuckoos can completely swap call/song. During the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas where both species overlap, heard only cuckoos were not identified to species unless visual confirmation for this reason. If memory serves, it was Yellow-billed that mimicked the Black-billed more frequently. Anywa, food for thought especially since Black-bill sightings in AB have spiked over the past couple years. ...
