RBA: BLACK PHOEBE in Campbell River - May 16-22nd

On May 16th-2026, Cindy Ederis found a Black Phoebe at the Quinsam Hatchery fish ladder in Campbell River. She believes the bird may possibly have a nest but this is not confirmed as of yet.

The bird continued in the same location on May 22nd and was viewed by multiple observers.

The hatchery is open to the general public 7 days a week, between 8am until 3:30pm.

This is the 68th record for BC.

11 MURPHY’S PETRELS in Haida Gwaii - May 19th

On May 19-2026, Kaiden Bosch et al. found a total of 11 Murphy’s Petrels on a friend’s vessel out of Sandspit in Haida Gwaii.

RBA: SPOTTED REDSHANK in Cranbrook - May 15th

At 8:40 am on May 15-2026, Martha Miller and Julia Zarankin and Gretchen Whetham found a Spotted Redshank at Elizabeth Lake in Cranbrook. They observed the bird for 5 mins before it flew off and they could not relocate it and were not sure which direction it flew.

RBA: WHITE-WINGED DOVE in Nanaimo - May 10-12th

On May 10-2026, Joanne Jonas McRae found a White-winged Dove coming to her feeder at her private home.

The home may be open to the public if it returns tomorrow and then the address will be posted here.

On May 11th, the bird was visible from the public street in a tall fir in the 5700 block of Malibu Terrace. Listen for distinct calls to find it.
