A good sighting anywhere in North American waters, this juvenile was photographed 20km off Vancouver Island near Ucluelet, BC (March 8). The large pink bill distinguishes it from the more common Black-footed Albatross. As they get older, STAL will gradually molt into their distinct white and black plumage.[

outstanding! Bet it was cold out there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sighting, these are indeed incredible birds, and one of the rarest in the world! I was fortunate to see one on a Westport Pelagic trip last summer, and would love to see one again. Anyone up for a wild albatross chase?
ReplyDeleteyou get a boat and an insane skipper and I'm there!
ReplyDeleteHaha. If it's a weekend, I'm in too!
