RBA: 2 TAIGA BEAN-GEESE in Port Renfrew - Feb 2-March 2nd

At 1:36pm on February 2-2026, Emma Young-Wood found and photographed 2 Taiga Bean-Geese on the mossy edge of Browns Creek while standing on the Deering Bridge in Port Renfrew. When she returned at 3pm she could not relocate the birds.

This is a first confirmed record for BC. 

Thank you to the Pacheedaht First Nation for allowing birders to view the birds on their lands.

On Feb 4-2026, the birds were relocated by Mike and Sharon Toochin HERE but then flew upstream towards the Deering Bridge.

The birds were then relocated HERE and HERE and are being viewed by multiple observers by scope from HERE 

On Feb 5th, the birds continue HERE and at the original location at the Deering Bridge HERE and was viewed by multiple observers.

On Feb 6th, the birds continue HERE opposite Caawidk House (Parks Canada building) and HERE

On Feb 7-8th, the birds continue HERE opposite Caawidk House (Parks Canada building) viewed from HERE 

The geese were not relocated on Feb 9th.

On Feb 10th, the geese continued HERE

On Feb 14-15th, the birds continue HERE opposite Caawidk House (Parks Canada building) viewed from HERE 

On Feb 16-24th, the birds continue at the original location at the Deering Bridge HERE 

On Feb 28th, the birds continue HERE

On March 1st, the birds continue at the original location at the Deering Bridge HERE 

On March 2nd, the birds continue HERE opposite Caawidk House (Parks Canada building) viewed from HERE

RBA: SIBERIAN PIPIT in Metchosin - Feb 1-3rd

At 3 pm on February 1-2026, Trevor Henry and Isaac Esselink found a Siberian Pipit with 9 American Pipits in the sea grass at Witty’s Lagoon. The bird was first identified by Geoffrey Newell as a probable Siberian Pipit from photos on eBird the next day.

The bird was not relocated on February 2nd, despite multiple birders looking.

The bird was relocated by Geoffrey Newell in the exact same location at 3pm on February 3rd.

This is the 7th record for BC.

RBA: SUMMER TANAGER in Campbell River and Qualicum Beach — Jan 14-Feb 17th

On Jan 14-2026, Patti Kanester found a Summer Tanager at her home in Campbell River.

Birders can view the bird from the public street as it is coming to the front yard feeder at 110 Jones Rd.

Please do not point cameras at windows, do not block driveways and do not trespass and please be respectful of neighbours.

This is the 13th record for BC.

The bird continued on Jan 16th and has been viewed by multiple observers.

The bird was not relocated on Jan 17th in Campbell River.

**On Jan 17th, what appears to be the same bird, was relocated by Jennifer Westbroek at a private home in Qualicum Beach.**

The home is open to the public and is located at 556 Willow Rd in Qualicum Beach. Birders are allowed to enter the gate on the driveway and stand on the stone by the gate. She does not want people talking loudly or disturbing the bird by approaching the feeders.

The bird continued at the Qualicum Beach residence on Feb 17th and has been viewed by multiple observers.

The bird has not been seen since.

RBA: BRAMBLING in Smithers - Dec 27-28th

At 9:15 am on December 27-2025, Mel and Evi Coulson, Dennis and Cindy Verbeek found a Brambling coming to a feeder on Broadway Ave in Smithers. This appears to be a different bird than the bird found in nearby Telkwa.

The bird continues on Dec 28th at Ken White's home at 3959 Broadway Ave.

The homeowner Ken is fine with birders viewing it from the public street.

RBA: TAIGA FLYCATCHER in Vancouver - Dec 25/25-March 3/26

At 2:30pm on December 25-2025, Ethan Moon found a hatch year Taiga Flycatcher at Sunset Beach Park in Vancouver.

The bird continues HERE by the Aquatic Centre and last seen HERE in Hornbeam Trees along Beach Ave as of 4:10pm and has been viewed by multiple observers.

The bird continues on Dec 26/25-March 3/26 HERE and HERE at Sunset Beach Park and has been viewed by multiple observers. The bird has a circuit and forages at the base of trees as far down as Jervis Street but always returns to the trees HERE by the aquatic centre off the seawall.

This is a first record for BC and Canada.

RBA: BRAMBLING in Telkwa - Dec 24-25th

At 9 am on Dec 24-2025, Cindy Lewis found a Brambling in a junco flock on 5426 Hubert St in Telkwa.

RBA: BRAMBLING in Terrace - Dec 21/25-Jan 11/26

At 2 pm on December 21-2025, Eileen LeFrancois and Teresa and Diane Weismiller found a Brambling in a junco flock at a feeder in the front yard of the house at 4632 Scott Ave in Terrace.

RBA: PINE WARBLER in Victoria - Dec 15/25-Jan 3/26

At 12:10pm on December 15-2025, Simon Dakin found a Pine Warbler at his private home visiting his suet feeder in Victoria.

The bird continues on Dec 16th at the same home and has been viewed by multiple observers. The homeowner is allowing birders to view from the public street. 

The bird is coming to the suet feeder on Harriet Rd just north of Burnside Rd E. in Victoria. The homeowner has graciously moved the feeder to the front yard.

The bird has also been seen in a mixed chickadee and bushtit flock in a tall cedar at 3264 Irma St across from Rudd Park.

On Dec 17/25-Jan 3/26, the bird was relocated at the feeders near the tree with Christmas ornaments at 3229 Irma St.

This is the third record for BC.

**On Jan 3rd the bird appeared to sustain a window strike injury and was not seen on Jan 4th.**

RBA: SUMMER TANAGER in Surrey - Nov 28-Dec 12th

At 12:50 pm on Nov 28-2025 Fred Dobson found a Summer Tanager at his suet feeder at his private home. The bird stayed until 4:30pm but has not returned since.

This is the 12th record for BC.

The bird was relocated in Krystal McEwan’s private yard on Dec 8 and stayed until Dec 12th-2025.

RBA: PRAIRIE WARBLER in Surrey - Nov 20th (late report)

A Prairie Warbler was photographed by Hsien Chong Tan and viewed as well by Ju Dee Ang at 10 am on Nov 20th in a blackberry bush near the Maple St Pumphouse at Blackie Spit Park.

RBA: TUFTED DUCK in Richmond - Nov 23/25-Feb 11th/26

On November 23-2025, Ethan Gosnell found a male Tufted Duck moulting out of eclipse plumage at the outer pond at Iona Regional Park in Richmond.

The bird was also seen in the NW inner pond on Nov 24-Dec 9th

From Dec 11/2025-Feb 9/2026, the bird was in the main outer pond and in the scaup flock off the base of the causeway and also back in the NW inner pond.

On Feb 11-2026, Caroline Knox appears to have relocated the bird from Iona at the east end of Lost Lagoon HERE at Stanley Park

RBA: PAINTED BUNTING in Williams Lake - Nov 15-18th

On Nov 15-2025, Kelly Price found and photographed a male Painted Bunting. The bird was at the feeder in the yard of his sister’s private residence, in Williams Lake.

The bird continues at the feeder on Nov 18th.

RBA: BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER in Prince George - Nov 11-17th

At 11 am on Nov 11-2025, Kalum Srochenski found a male Black-throated Blue Warbler at his private home off Frontage Rd near Sykes Rd W in Prince George.

Birders are welcome to view the bird from the public street.

The bird returned to the same location on Nov 17th and birders are welcome to come view it.

RBA: HOODED ORIOLE in Smith Inlet - Nov 10th

On Nov 10-2025, Thomas Rivest found a male Hooded Oriole feeding from the planters at Great Bear Lodge at the end of Smith inlet in BC's Central Coast. This lodge is NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and CLOSED for the winter season.

This is the 31st record for BC.

RBA: BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER in Victoria - Nov 10-Dec 22nd

At 10:15 am on Nov 10-2025, Thompson Hyggen found a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher at Finlayson Point and then at 11 am it moved 200m to the west off Dallas Rd, where it was viewed by multiple birders for at least 20 mins. It was loosely associating with a flock of bushtits.

At 9 am on Nov 6, 2025, Blair Dudeck and Aiva Noringseth found a Red-throated Pipit at the Cowichan Estuary in Cowichan Bay.

RBA: HOODED ORIOLE in Tofino - Nov 2/25-March 2/26

At 3:30pm on Nov 2-2025, Ian Cruickshank found a Hooded Oriole visiting a hummingbird feeder near the intersection of Wharf and Main Sts in Tofino. The feeder is visible from the public road. 

Please be respectful of private property and homeowners when viewing this bird from the public road.

This is 30th record for BC.

The bird was seen in the same location on Nov 3rd and viewed by multiple observers. The bird was not seen between Nov 3 and Dec 6th.

On Dec 6-2025, Ian Cruickshank relocated the bird at the same feeder.

The bird continues in the same location as of March 2/26 and has been viewed by multiple observers.

RBA: WHITE-WAGTAIL in Powell River - Oct 31-Nov 4th

On Oct 31-2025, Kathie and Ken Pritchard found an adult female White Wagtail of the lugens subspecies in the parking lot of Starbucks at the Town Centre Mall.

This appears to be the same bird from Richmond, BC. It wasn’t found in Richmond today and feather wear and plumage appears to be identical.

The bird continued in the same location and in the A & W parking lot HERE on Nov 4th.

It has not been relocated on Nov 5 or 6th.

RBA: LITTLE BUNTING in Roberts Creek - Oct 30th

At 11:39 am on October 30-2025, Kaiden Bosch found a Little Bunting in Roberts Creek. He watched the bird fly in calling and land on the pier ten feet in front of him, for one minute before it quickly flew off towards Gibsons.

He watched it fly high for at least 1 Km and lost it.

RBA: RUSTIC BUNTING in Haida Gwaii - Oct 29-31st

At 2:15 pm on October 30-2025, Carl Hughes found an adult female Rustic Bunting near Sandspit Airport in Haida Gwaii. The bird was foraging in a flock of Dark-eyed Juncos on the lawn 200m south of the airport terminal.
