RBA: 2 SHORT-TAILED ALBATROSS off Tofino - Oct 8-10

At 11am on Oct 10-2025, while working on the FV Ocean Pearl, Lindsay Dealy and the crew found and photographed 2 immature Short-tailed Albatross. She has viewed both birds at the same time in the same area on Oct 8 and 9th but wasn't able to obtain photos until Oct 10th.

RBA: ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER in Delta - Oct 8th

At 2pm on Oct 8-2025, John Gordon found an Ash-throated Flycatcher at Boundary Bay near the 80th St pumphouse in Delta.

The bird was seen HERE calling at 4 pm before flying north and out of sight. 

The bird has not been relocated since.

RBA: STELLER’S EIDER in Port Hardy - Oct 8-26th

At 12 pm on October 8-2025, Émile Brisson-Curadeau found an immature male Steller’s Eider in Port Hardy at the Quatse Estuary Wildlife Management Area.

The bird is best viewed at high tide when the ducks are less spread out.

**Please park tight to the road (on the bay side) and do not block the work trucks that have to use the road.**

**On Oct 9-2025, the bird was relocated HERE off Tsulquate Park and HERE at Carrot Park and was viewed by multiple observers.

On Oct 10th the bird continues HERE  off Carrot Park which is at the end of Market Street.**

On Oct 11-26th, the bird continued HERE off Tsulquate Park and back at Carrot Park.

The bird has not been relocated since Oct 26th, despite multiple observes looking.

RBA: BLACK PHOEBE in Port Hardy - Oct 8th

At 12 pm on October 8-2025, Émile Brisson-Curadeau found a Black Phoebe in Port Hardy at the Quatse Estuary Wildlife Management Area. The bird briefly perched on a barn just south of the trail and then flew east.

RBA: BLACK PHOEBE on Saturna Island - Oct 4-Nov 9th

At 2:30pm on October 4-2025, Anne Murray found a Black Phoebe perched on a powerline on Trueworthy Rd on Saturna Island.

This is the 63rd record for BC.

The bird continues on Nov 9th and was relocated by Peggy Lee on the roof of nearby Feral Goat Bistro at the Sage Hayward Vineyard HERE

RBA: SUMMER TANAGER on Sonora Island - Sept 26-Oct 3rd

At 11:30 am on Sept 26-2025, Jody Eriksson found a female Summer Tanager at their private home on Sonora Island.

The homeowner is generously allowing birders to come see the bird. The only way to access the home is by water taxi from Campbell River or private boat.

The bird continues on Oct 3rd but was not relocated on Oct 4th.

This is the 11th record for BC.

RBA: OLIVE-BACKED PIPIT in Haida Gwaii - Sept 29-30th

At 10:55 am on September 29-2025 Kaiden Bosch found an Olive-backed Pipit in dense salmonberry bushes in an old log sort lot off Oceanview Drive near 12th St in Daajing Giids. He saw it only briefly for 45 seconds before it took off. He saw it again at 2:10pm but could not get a photo but was finally able to relocate the bird in the same spot at 6pm and obtain photos.

This is the first record for BC and first for Canada.

The bird was observed briefly Sept 30th at the same location before flying into a nearby private property.  It has not been relocated since, despite dedicated searches for it.

RBA: LITTLE STINT in Colwood - Sept 26th

At 3:30pm on September 26-2025, Geoffrey Newell found a juvenile Little Stint in a flock of 130 Western Sandpipers at Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood.

The bird has not been relocated since.

RBA: RED-THROATED PIPITS in Haida Gwaii - Sept 27th

At 11:15 am on Sept 27-2025, Kaiden Bosch found 2 Red-throated Pipits calling and flying over him before landing on the grass of the Sandspit Airport in Sandspit, Haida Gwaii.

He was not able to obtain a photo or recording but is very familiar with the species and distinctive call and had one at the same site he photographed on Sept 10th, 2025.

The birds were not relocated.

RBA: WHITE WAGTAIL in Haida Gwaii - Sept 27th

At 10 am on September 27-2025, Kaiden Bosch found a White Wagtail on the beach near the Sandspit Airport in Haida Gwaii.

The bird has not been relocated as of 2pm.
