RBA: NORTHERN PARULA in Cranbrook - May 29-30th

At 7:50 am on May 29-2026, Jo Ellen Floer found a Northern Parula in the trees near the small pond by Elizabeth Lake Lodge in Cranbrook.

She was able to get a recording of the bird and view it briefly.

At 8pm Craig Sandvig, Sachi Snively and Dianne Cooper viewed the bird at the same spot and obtained photos.

The bird continues in the same spot on May 30th and has been viewed by multiple observers.

RBA: BLACK PHOEBE in Campbell River - May 16-June 12th

On May 16th-2026, Cindy Ederis found a Black Phoebe at the Quinsam Hatchery fish ladder in Campbell River. On June 5th, 2026 Cindy Ederis confirmed the bird laid 5 eggs in a nest.  She is uncertain if the eggs are fertilized or not but are being incubated. She photographed the nest and those photos are below. If they hatch as pure Black Phoebes, it would be the first confirmed breeding record for Canada for this species.

The bird continued in the same location on June 12th and was viewed by multiple observers.

The hatchery is open to the general public 7 days a week, between 8am until 3:30pm.

11 MURPHY’S PETRELS in Haida Gwaii - May 19th

On May 19-2026, Kaiden Bosch et al. found a total of 11 Murphy’s Petrels on a friend’s vessel out of Sandspit in Haida Gwaii.

RBA: SPOTTED REDSHANK in Cranbrook - May 15th

At 8:40 am on May 15-2026, Martha Miller and Julia Zarankin and Gretchen Whetham found a Spotted Redshank at Elizabeth Lake in Cranbrook. They observed the bird for 5 mins before it flew off and they could not relocate it and were not sure which direction it flew.

RBA: WHITE-WINGED DOVE in Nanaimo - May 10-12th

On May 10-2026, Joanne Jonas McRae found a White-winged Dove coming to her feeder at her private home.

The home may be open to the public if it returns tomorrow and then the address will be posted here.

On May 11th, the bird was visible from the public street in a tall fir in the 5700 block of Malibu Terrace. Listen for distinct calls to find it.

RBA: SNOWY PLOVER in Delta - April 29th

At 11am on April 29-2026, Kevin Louth found a Snowy Plover east of the pilings near 96th St at Boundary Bay. 

Scope required. The bird was viewed by multiple observers as of 12:30pm but was not relocated as of 1pm when it flew east shortly before.

RBA: HOODED ORIOLE in Merritt - April 28th

On April 28-2026, Andrea I. found a male Hooded Oriole at her private home. The bird was coming to her hummingbird feeder. 

The home is not open to the public.

RBA: WHITE WAGTAIL in Tofino - April 18th

At 1 pm on April 18-2026, Amanda Jane and the Clarks found a White Wagtail of the lugens subspecies on the roof of the Kwisitis Visitor Centre and on the beach at Wickanninish Beach in Tofino. 

The bird continued 300m south of the Kwisitis Visitor Centre as of 6:30pm and has been viewed by multiple observers.

RBA: SNOWY PLOVER in Campbell River - April 13-18th

At 2 pm on April 13-2026, Jeremy Gatten found a Snowy Plover in Campbell River. The bird was on the rocky shore off the end of Heard Rd.

This is the 51st record for BC.

The bird was not relocated on April 14th, despite multiple observers looking.

On April 15th-18th, the bird continued at Oyster Bay.

The bird was not relocated on April 19th.

RBA: TUFTED DUCK in Duncan - April 13th

At 8:30 am on April 13-2026 Jean-Pascal Giroux found a Tufted Duck at the Duncan Sewage Lagoons.

There is no public access inside the lagoons but birders can view the bird through the fence from the elevated trail off Wharncliffe Rd that gives a good view over most of the sewage lagoon.
