13 Jan - 8 Feb -- RED-FLANKED BLUETAIL in Vancouver!

Found on the 13th by Colin McKenzie and confirmed on the 14th by Mike Toochin and George Clulow, a first-winter Red-flanked Bluetail is still showing well in Queens Park, New Westminster, Vancouver (,-122.907829&spn=0.014997,0.042272).
From the main parking lot, walk 1 minute north towards the playground where the bird was seen feeding around the picnic tables and the base of the conifers on Feb 7.

  1. I think this is the first record for Canada of this bird! It is related to a European Robin, but it is probably closest in appearence among European birds to an Eastern Bluebird!

Where exactly is the main parking lot, and the picnic tables/playground?

I think the google map pinpoints the wrong location in the park...

    Clarification would be appreciated.

    1. That's not a pinpoint to indicate the location of the bird. User-created pinpoints are blue; that is just the point that comes up when you Google search Queens Park, New Westminster.

  2. As of Feb 3, 2013 the bird was still present.

  3. I have just arrived back in BC and will be getting into Vancouver on Feb 09. Can anyone tell me if this great little bird is still showing?
